Living it up in New York City with two awesome girls

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

We will meet again my friend,
A hundred years from today
Far away from where we lived
And where we used to play.
We will know each others' eyes
And wonder where we met
Your laugh will sound familiar
Your heart, I won't forget.
We will meet, I'm sure of this,
But let's not wait till then...
Let's take a walk beneath the stars
And share this world again.

Time to leave

Time to leave :( So sad.
We started off the morning in Grand Central Station. Hayley and I had breakfast with our friend Kathie. It was so awesome to catch up with her! Afterwards we headed into Times Square for some last minute shopping and to meet up with Britt. So sad to be finishing up with everything.

Once we walked home we had to finish up packing.. which we thought would take maybe half an hour. Boy were we wrong. Where did we get so much crap? I can't believe how much stuff we have! It's unbelievable. Each suitcase had to be sat on to be done up, and even that was a struggle. It was hilarious though! We had about 5 bags each. Five elevator trips later, we had all our suff downstairs and had to find a cab big enough to fit everything. It ended up with Britt running down the middle of the road.

We piled everything into the cab and an hour later we were at the airport, still struggling with our bags. Checking in was fun :P Luckily we had a lovely check in Lady, who was extremely patient seeing as everyone of our bags were overweight. We ended up each wearing about 3 jackets each.. I was carrying folders and photo albums, Britt had shoes in her pockets and Hayley was trying to figure out how to wear two pairs of shoes.

We didn't have to wait around for too long before we got on our flight. It was okay, except for the one hour taxi on the runway. I fell asleep before we even left. Once we were in LA we just grabbed some food and only had to wait around for about 2 hours. About 16 hours later we were back in Sydney :( The flight wasn't too bad.. I slept a bit (in painful positions but ohwell) Once we'd finally collected all our bags we met our families at the airport which was very nice!

We didn't wait around too long before it was time to say goodbye :( As if it wasn't hard enough leaving Amanda and Sara back in America but then I had to say goodbye to Britt which was so depressing. Atleast she only lives 15 minute away instead of 30 hours!

We hopped in the car and headed home.
... unpacking began with lying out all the things we'd brought back with us... WOW.

New York in Mourning

New York is mourning us leaving. The weather was dreadful today.
Today was our last full day in New York City and the weather was miserable. It was blowing a gale and teaming down rain. It settled a little in the arvo, but we got soaked this morning!

We did decide to go ice-scating this morning at the Rockefeller Centre so we started walking there, but as you can probably guess, we soon changed out minds because of the weather. After getting completely drenched we decided Max Brenner chocolate shop would be the perfect place to go in this weather. We hopped on the subway and headed down to 14th street on the subway. We had ALOT of chocolate.. it was delicious. Amanda also decided to spill both my drink and my meal on me aswell.. good on 'er :P Haha, she's funny.

After we struggled to get even half way through our chocolate meals we travelled back up to the apartment. We had to dry off for a while and just hung out before it was time to catch a taxi down to the bus terminal for Amanda to go home :( This was painful. It friggin killed to say goodbye :'(

Time for a bit of a pick me up - so we hit up the Disney Store on the first day it is open! It is huge, ofcourse and has some impressive things inside! There is mini castles and mini New York Buildings with merri-go-rounds and everything disney you could imagine :)

Hayley and I then walked uptown for a minute and saw Tracy Morgan while we were there.. he is mental. After we got tickets to In the Heights for tonight we walked up to 'Women on the Verge...' opening night arrivals and ran into Lin Manuel Miranda which was exciting.. he practically is 'In the Heights'

After this we needed some dinner so we went to Cosi for some delicious pizza.
Ah, it was amazing. Once we'd finished we walked on down to the theatre to see our last show :( It was also the last time to see ITH aswell which is depressing.
One last look at Times Square by night and we walked home at 11:30. It got to 5:45am before I hopped into bed. We had to do ALOT of packing!

... Cant wait to get up at 7:00 tomorrow :(

Wednesday

Brittany had to go back downtown this morning so Amanda, Hayley and I walked into the theatre district to get some tickets for the Billy Elliot matinee :) Once we were successful there we headed into the Times Sqaure Visitors Centre which is somewhere we have been eager to go to. As we were walking in, we heard someone singing and we soon realised it was Christiane Noll (whom I loved) It was awesome we got to meet her :) She was very nice!

After this brief moment of excitement we sat on the red steps for a while. It is seriously the best place in the world.  While we were in Times Square we noticed a huge line forming outside Toys R Us. It was for the new Xbox thing... and it wasn't going to be realised until 3am the next morning. These people were seriously dedicated. I can't imagine how cold it would have gotten for them.

After this, we met up with Britt again and went into Billy Elliot. I thought it was awesome! I enjoyed much more than I did the last time I saw it! Our seats were pretty good aswell. Hayley and Amanda saw a mouse run across the floor toward them which is hilarious. It's like we're some sort of mice magnet. haha. Afterwards we thought we might wander up to David Lettermen, which we did. Once we were there, we waited about 10 minutes and then got to see Tina Fey. That was exciting.. because who doesn't love Tina Fey.

Before the show tonight we had dinner at the Stardust Diner which is where the waiters get up and sing songs for you. It was a lot of fun.. especially watching those who had no clue what they were doing. Afterwards we went to Cosi for dessert. We had smores with massive Oreo biscuits. It was delicious!

Then it was off to Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown again. We wanted to see it from seats where we could actually see the stage this time. Ahhhh it was so good again. unbelievably funny! We saw them again at stage door and Laura Benanti remembered me and said it was good to see me again. Oh shucks..I only love her!

What a great Wednesday :)

Hottie

We walked downtown this morning. 80 blocks in fact. Down to Ground Zero and Century 21.
We got some delicious one dollar pizza on the way!

We also walked past Madison Square Garden where you can get a great view of the Empire State Building and also the incredible post office.

On the way we walked through some beautiful streets in Chelsea and Greenwich Village and we had a quick stopover at the FRIENDS building. It was so beautiful! On the way, we also ran into Mary Louise Parker! :)

Once we got all the way downtown we had another look at Ground Zero and also the Woolworth building.

We then went into Century 21, which is a huge department store. It has a lot of hugely discounted designer things, which is useless for me, but I did get some awesome shoes.
We then caught the train up to 49th street and went in the American Idiot lottery. I got called out early and we all got great tickets. We got spat on something chronic but Hayley scored a lot of stuff from the show, like drum sticks and picks. :)

After this, we met up with Mandy at Wicked Stage door. She took us backstage tonight! She is such an unbelievably amazing person. We had a great time.

After this we met up with Amanda who has come to stay with us! Yay! We walked back to the apartment and just chilled there.

In Wonderland

Amanda and Sara left his morning, which was a depressing beginning to the morning. Once they left, we had a little power nap before we were confronted with another mouse! Can you believe it! Luckily... Brittany, the new Lord of the mice did a brilliant job and caught it straight away. Hayley step aside. However, we did all scream our lungs put when we went to out the mouse in the bin (down in the basement) and were seemingly chased by another mouse. It was funny though :P

After this drama we wandered uptown for a change, past the Lincoln Centre and through some beautiful upper west side streets :)

We had an afternoon tea in the cutest little place I've ever seen. It was called Alice's Teacup and it's magical.

The sweetest little place. We all had tea and scones.. my tea was coconut and vanilla and was amazing. It was exactly what we needed because we're all so exhausted and it was also freezing outside :P

Once we left Alice's Teacup we headed to the In The Heights Lottery which we were successful in! Third time in a row we've been the centre seats aswell. So chuffed :)

Between the lottery and the show we returned to Forever 21.. it seemed a good idea, but another $100 later, maybe not so much haha. I got some awesome socks for 95 cents though! winner.

We went to the show and loved it, no surprises. Tonight was actually the best I've ever seen it. The energy from the cast was insane. We had a lot of understudies but they were all amazing!

After the show we just headed home and listened to a live stream of the Melbourne cup.. A nice taste of home!

Hallogiving thanksween

So today was fun :)
We started off meeting up with Sara and Amanda while Britt met her friend Jess for brunch. We began our preperation for Halloween then :)

We wandered down to the theatre district to get some tickets for the Addams Fanily matinee. Hayley was dressed as a convict and got countless 'funny' remarks by random strangers. It was alot of fun!
After we met back up with Britt, we headed to Bob's house, picking up some FREE pumpkins on the way. It was carving time!

I think we all did a pretty good job! It was so fun... Bob was cooking thanksgiving dinner and an NFL game was on. It was great!

Once we had some lunch, we walked down to Addams Family. It was actually pretty funny and the set a curtain itself were amazing :)

When we left Addams family we met back up with Bob and headed to Times Square before catching the subway down to Greenwich Village for the annual Halloween Parade.

It was mayhem with so many people! We stayed for about an hour of the parade and fought our way back home. It was insane. It was so crowded that we were actually stationary, unable to push our way out of the crowds. Nobody could.

Once we crawled our way through the mobs we caught the first subway we could find back uptown. When we got back, Bob had it under control! Alot of food cooking.. and Sara narrating everything in song :P

Dinner was delicious! It was our real Thanksgiving dinner, so we could celebrate it before we left :) Oh my goodness.. what an amazing night. Life is so much fun with these people. We just chatted for hours (with a lot of laughing) and eventually headed home in the early hours of November.

Once home, we chatted for a while then went to bed about 3am. We wish they could stay forever/come back to Aus with us!

Ps. we have team shirts now.. and it's now the most cherished thing I've ever owned :)
